Anyway, sorry but I dont have much experience with it. Ive narrowed it to 3, but just cant quite choose. I decided to to send Fierce an email basically telling them how disappointed I was with the tight chamber and extractor design issues and failure. Bergara seems to have just come out with a Walnut stock maybe as a result of one of you comparing their stocks to garage floors??? Can you review the Sako S20 or why havent you done it yet? Its that or the ruger American in 6.5. Like, sure. Seekins is another I looked into but judging by the lack of representation in reviews I\m not confident in it either. I have one in 308 and Federal premium 168grain Berger hunter (or hunter hybrid, cant remember now) shoot less than an inch at 100 yards, but now they are hard to find. With plain Jane 55 grain hornady soft points and max listed load of H4895, it shoots 1/4 to 3/8 at 100 yards if I lay off the coffee. Problem is , Im not sure it is practical to spend so much on a custom for some folks. I know its very high end but with a replaced hip and knee, I want anchored shots and believe that cartridge is a slight upgrade on the venerable 300WM. You must log in or register to reply here. Its incredibly well built. And I need it in a shorter stock. I too had nailed it down to the Savage or the Ruger American Rifle. Fit me like a glove. Both good guns, I would worry about Franchi suddenly stopping production of this rifle and parts availability going to zero. Great comment, Frank. I was disappointed to see that you no longer recommend the Savage 110 ultralight, having watched the original review which just about made up my mind to spend the $1200. If you want to hunt larger game like elk, then Id recommend getting the same rifle in .30-06 Springfield. The budget rifle video and cartridge wars are among my fav on YouTube for hunting alone. Hi Jim. My assumption has been that given the limited rifles and ammos out, the x-bolt with browning ammo would have to work well together right out of the box. Cries racism when pointed out that is an idiot. Do you still recommend them. This gun is very accurate, has a great bump pad to absorb recoil (unlike most wood rifles) and has a threaded barrel for good measure. The Franchi Momentum Elite Bolt-Action Rifle also has a 1-piece 1913 Picatinny rail that permits flexible accommodation of various aftermarket optics. Then I bought an Alaskan 338 Win Mag Laminate in Stainless. Its a scaled down, lighter weight Sako TRG action with a Sako barrel and trigger. Fierce is about $400 more and almost a pound heavier. This ammo is usually an average accuracy performer for me, but dang did the Franchi shoot it well. Loved seeing some rifles I hadnt seen vids on with the Sako and getting your full thoughts. I would love to hear you critique rifle makers that offer nothing left handed in their main lines. I wouldnt hesitate to recommend a Weatherby if you find one in a cartridge you like, or if you dont mind shooting Weatherbys overbore cartridges. The only problem with a Springfield 2020 Waypoint is they dont offer it in enough chamberings. My arms are a bit short and most hunting rifles are just too long for me, length of pull wise. Sorry youtube is being such a pain in the ass to you as well. Can't see enough difference to make a difference. It tames the recoil of this 6.6-pound rifle extremely well. What do you think of the French after some time? It just does everything reasonably well. My brother and another buddy bought one (223 and 22-250) because mine shot so well and they had similar results. #1. What are your thoughts on the Remington Model 700 Alpha One? keep on the good work and excuse my poor englis. I like the cleaner lines without the mag sticking out. I have been trying to get a Waypoint. 3. and three-stage safety. I can be an affiliate for just about any gun brand, so it doesnt impact my recommendations. I cant say I love the idea of a polymer sling mount with a relatively thin wall to it, but its definitely more out-of-the-way than a protruding stud. Jim great reviews. I really like the trigger feel, but it is a little heavy. What do you think of the weight of the gun compared to some of these lightweight carbon stocks? Im sure the leupold would be better, but for a 700 dollar difference, Ill see how I like the Burris. Overall, I think the best three rifles under $1,000 are the Tikka T3X Lite, the Bergara B-14 Ridge, and the Weatherby Vanguard. As Im new to the shooting world Im still undecided on a long range target rifle. One issue that has come up with all three of their guns is having to check and tighten the front and rear action assembly screws. Theres also the option of ordering that rifle with a Vortex Crossfire II scope on it. Fantastic. First available in 1936 for Petes sake. Thanks for your time Jim, love the channel! Vald, I love me some harbor freight. 180 gr Remington tipped core lokt and its in the bullseye out to 400. Likely sub-half-MOA. I would also love a video on the Winchester model 70 extreme weather! In this day and age, there is really no reason to not have a removable magazine that you could top load also. Price points on the ammo dont put them too far apart when searching on Ammoseek, usually within 5 bucks a box depending upon brand. Mine is in 223 for chucks. So it is not a 700 rem action like the Bergara, So no MDT chassis at this time to match. Love your content man, great job building the channel and the webpage. Overall, it seems like a decent gun for the price. Seller: Ammo And Arms. The Tikka T3x has a single-column detachable clip magazine made from a strong fiberglass-reinforced composition. Is the quality that good? Its a good option for light cartridges, but the light weight and stock design dont make for a good match on heavy cartridges. Great choice in a gun. Overall * * * * TOP DEALS View All Deals. I looked at the Waypoint locally and thought is was a really nice gun. 80lbs maybe. He recommended a wildcat round, 7 mm SAW. I think I will try to pick one up next week, in either a .308 or .300. If you go slow while trying to be quiet in a hunting situation, it may not feed right. I own a 6.5-.300 Wby and reload my own ammo. I like the Sig Cross because its lightweight, easily adjustable to fit me or my kids, very accurate, and the short barrel and folding stock make it easily packable for hunts. then Its typically priced around $950, but for $100 extra dollars over the $850 budget, you get an adjustable mini chassis. Thanks, Joe. Ha! (weight) American Hunter's first reports of it indicated excellent fit and function and accuracy. It is very expensive. Or, even better if your choice cost less. XPR has a great barrel (mine was very accurate), free floated; pretty smooth bolt/action for price; same trigger as M70; permacote is durable; stock is better than most in price range. He missed the entire point of the product to rant about what great deals can be had on old guns. And have heard mostly good things on it, so I kinda think it was mostly a caliber issue for that gun. These are deal breakers. I own one in a 30-06, with 3 safes full of guns, it is my favourite. Hi Jim, Hi Jim, Ive owned a Lupo chambered in 30-06 for several months now. Premium recoil pad, pic rail, fluted barrel, muzzle breakMOA guaranteed accuracy like the Tikka. Threaded barrel for a brake. i would like to buy new as its going to be my first rifle so thought with mod . Model 70s and tons and tons of various 98 Mauser rifles ranging from converted low cost military guns to commercial Mausers that cost thousands. I found not too long ago a Husqvarna Mauser for $400 bucks in like new condition. Christensen MPR The MPR looks fantastic, but I do feel like its a little bit of lipstick on a pig. Id love to give one a good in-depth review, but I havent yet. I own 30-06, i own a 300 win mag , now never pull anything out but the 300 win mag , it is a Browning A bolt with the belly clip , has the sweet spot muzzle break ,that takes care of half of the recoil and have the Remington butt pad . love the mauser style trigger guard/magazine. I have been taking in everyone of ur vids I can find and sincerely appreciate your work and am interested in your take on the Seekins product? Overall, the rifle is kinda heavy so itd be nice to reduce recoil a bit. Wow, what a shooter! Ive been looking at the varment line in a 6.5 cm. Both have 3 lug bolts with the lugs integral with the rest of the bolt body 3. Base Price: $816.99: Tax: - In Stock: Back in stock . (Momentum 2018 followed by the Momentum Elite 2019). Plus, it uses an old-school sporter stock that just isnt what todays long-range shooter is looking for. Seller: Ammo And Arms. I was about to buy a Christenson Arms rifle but you and a few others have commented about the quality. And based on my limited sample size, this budget rifle seems to prefer budget ammo. Just how it shot when the time came. I was considering the Sig Cross, but the safe selector issue concerns me. I purchased a 280 AI in a Mark V Weatherby instead. some of us realize we would be charged a certain premium. Availability might be part of the problem. It talks about every calibre Savage Arms is selling in Canada but dont talk about calibre I purchased. Magazine Comparison: The Browning X-Bolt features a 4 round detachable polymer rotary magazine. However, I kill a lot of elk where Im from, and my smaller 6.5s dont produce the knock down effect I had with the Weatherby. Ive tried a lot of others, including Hornady PH (178gr I think) and Hornady Match 168 gr, and they are lucky to shoot 4 inch group with huge point of impact change. I recall in a vid you talked about hunting with Mosin Nagans, the Russian 30.06! I think in theory controlled feed is better, but they also generally dont feed well (or at all) if you try to feed by dropping one in, rather than mag feeding. I'll stick with my Tikkas, they make me happy! Great info on the ins and outs of shooting and the rifle reviews. I verified it with factory ammo, Guaranteed 1 MOA accuracy, but probably beats that, Guaranteed 1 MOA. Curious to hear your thoughts/experience with it. Thanks! The only competitor would be a full custom on the amazing MDT HNT 26 chassis. Yes if I were going to Alaska where you can run into damp rainy weather for days on end I would either have my Mauser electrolysis nickle plated (it plates even the inside of a receiver and barrel) or if I wanted to get off cheap take a chance on a modern stainless rifle that probably would freeze up in very cold weather with their speed lock mechanisms which are idiotic in a hunting rifle. Watch my full review of the Springfield 2020 Waypoint. Looking for a good review of it after months of no Tikkas available locally in 308. Is it worth it? It shoots as well as some of my full blown custom rifles I have thousands invested in. The Cross is great for 6.5 Creedmoor or 6.5 PRC, but the stock just isnt suitable for heavy recoiling cartridges. And all the great work you do! what do you think of it? Solid brass bullet ,which I really like. Franchi, the well-known maker of fine and affordable shotguns, unveiled an updated bolt gun in its Momentum Elite. I stewed over it for a minute but he made me answer, and I said to go with the Tikka T3x Lite. A shiny one. Which one do you recommend, God-bless you for being a second amendment supporter I will pray for you your wife and your family God-bless, Wow! Chambered in .308 Winchester, the author's Franchi Momentum has a 22-inch barrel with a threaded muzzle and a black synthetic stock with a recoil pad and integral sling-swivel studs. Do you have any other recommendations or would you like to sell the Savage? My search is with an elk/mule deer hunt in mind. They do have a more expensive option for a titanium action that is even lighter, but I feel the titanium actions just arent as smooth in the hand. I\ve hunted since high school age but always small game/birds. Unless you spend 4-5 G on a custom built left handed. Ive shot heavier .308s with more felt recoil than this guy. Frankly, I just dont see the value in the Werkman. I still think the 2020 Waypoint is just a better gun overall. One might think that in this price range, youd have a multitude of choices, but in my opinion, there are really only three hunting rifles Id consider. And contrary to most German rifles today, the barrel is threaded into the reciever (not heat shrunk). Thanks. Ive got an old 700 that is a beautiful gun and was a great deal but Im taking the plastic stock Savage up in the tree this fall. I am looking at it in 243 but cant decide between that and x bolt. Great reviews, but nothing on the Browning AB3? But the biggest difference is that Franchi is hoping to sell rifles, and theyll sell 90, 6.5 Creeds for every 6.555 they sell , quoteBut the biggest difference is that Franchi is hoping to sell rifles, and theyll sell 90, 6.5 Creeds for every 6.555 they sell quote. Premium recoil pad, pic rail, fluted barrel, muzzle break.MOA guaranteed accuracy like the Tikka. A junk plasticky trigger guard, its enough to make you barf just looking at it. Wondering your opinion on those I understand theyre not hunting rifles I just thought you would enjoy those rigles as I do. Ive fallen in love. There are many rifles above the $2k price point. Its a great rifle for heavier cartridges. Hello I love your videos and your reviews the only comment I have is that the savage 110 ultralite does not have the accustock. What ammo are you shooting in your cross? Love the guns review vid on ones under $500 and everything else! TIKKA is proven, Franchi has some good reports. Savage 110? I recently purchased the Momentum Elite in the 6.5 creedmoor and respectfully think an honourable mention for the under $1000 would be appropriate. FRUSTRATING. The SIG Cross would be a best second choice. Its a crisp, clean, single-stage trigger with no slack or take-up and a nice break. Id love to hear if the model 70 is still relevant. Most people hide their plasticky pieces of shit from their friends if their friends are the old foxes who know what a real gun is. Saving a penny by not buying grease and oil costs you hundreds of dollars in rust repair. Forearm checkering extends nearly all the way forward, ending just short of another molded-in and recessed sling swivel mount. The torque settings have to be exact and should use friction paper in the bottom rings. Thanks! Hey Jim, Ive got a line on a used Seekins Havak Element in 6.5 PRC. It weighs a little heavy per the stats, Ill admit but at that price point, its very hard to ignore especially since lightweight after-market chassis can cost as much as the base model B-14, Rem 700, Tikka T3, etc. Its a well designed stock, but the fit and finish feels cheesyespecially the checkering pattern they use. ALL RIGHTS RESERVED. Hard to go wrong with it for online prices often below $400. Wondering if you have a reason for this The narrow width put my eye behind the scope nicely but also leaves enough fudge factor for owners who will add an aftermarket cheek piece or wrap. Most of the videos I see you get two shots touching and a flier on the mod 70. The ammo is inexpensive and widely available, the recoil in manageable for most shooters, and the cartridge is unquestionably capable of taking elk cleanly. The plasticky stock is Pure junk. What would you like to know? Yes please, there is a major lack of opinions out there on the LUPO. Regards kjetil A B Strandengen. Ive shot it twice and didnt like it either time. Was very happy with all of it. I would love a 300 Win Mag. ISO: 20ga (semi-auto, sxs, and o/u in order of priority), Recommendation for a tarp for my pack - mostly going to use to put quarters on but, FORLOH AllClima Softshell and AllClima Stretch Woven Pant Review. Im really down to the Fierce Carbon Rival vs the Weatherby MarkV Backcountry. I am looking for an all purpose dependable rifle to handle more than one role. I rarely hear manufacturing quality concerns about Weatherby rifles. I like the fact that you backed your reviews with a substantial reason for the review vs nothing to substantiate the review. Hey Jim, I would love to hear your imput on which rifle you prefer between the Ruger American, CVA Cascade, and the Winchester XPR. BTW unless youre reloading, the vast majority of factory 6.5 Creedmoor is quite a bit faster than the same projectile in 6.555. Then you can go pick up in your local store in just a couple days and do the government paperwork and walk away with it. I dont see the stock being much different really. The 300 win mag barrel twist is a little slow, but if you arent going to handload, it should shoot up the 200 grain bullets in factory Ammo just fine. I own the X-Bolt in 7mm Magnum and it is fantastic. Looks great. I havent seen you review any CZ rifle, any cause un particular? Even though Im happy with my decision, the Ultralite might have been the better way to go. Amway if anyone has one opinions please. Any thoughts. But the chassis is the killer for me. To wit: 1. I also own a Savage 110 Ultralite in 6.5 PRC- fantastic accuracy, but I just could not warm up to the plasticy stock.
